WHAT IS THE FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER?
SOUTH BAY AND PINE HILL FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER IS ONE OF SEVERAL FAMILY RESOURCE CENTERS (FRC) THROUGHOUT HUMBOLDT COUNTY. AN FRC IS A PLACE WHERE COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN ACCESS SERVICES AND RESOURCES WITHIN THEIR OWN NEIGHBORHOODS. WE FOCUS ON IMPROVING THE WELL-BEING OF CHILDREN, YOUTH, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITIES BY OFFERING REFERRALS AND LINKAGES TO SERVICES.
FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER SERVICES
SERVICES AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS include, but are not limited to:
Family Services: family resource libraries, parenting workshops, clothing, emergency transportation, emergency basic needs, insurance Medi-Cal, CalWORKS and CalFresh enrollment assistance
Food: food backpack program for students, holiday food distribution, supper program in the afterschool program
Multi-Cultural: translating, interpreting, cultural presentations, multilingual information, bilingual children’s books, adult English language classes
Academic: after school intervention, tutoring, educational materials, family support, school advocacy, student recognition
Health: healthcare and dental referrals, health and nutrition education, lice eradication
Mental Health: outreach and identification, assessments, early intervention, counseling, peer groups
Community: family events, adult education, no-cost community meeting
facilities, volunteer opportunities, and recognition.
Community Advocacy: participation in local regional and state committees, network with state and federal organizations, a representative for children and family support services
